Owosso is a culturally-rich mid-Michigan city that is home to several unique museums and festivals. Curwood Castle was the writing studio of famous author James Oliver Curwood, and is now a museum with period antiques, Curwood books, photos and other memorabilia. Every year the four-day Curwood Festival is held to celebrate this history that also includes a street fair, parades, carnival rides and rafting contests. The Movie Museum is located in a former church and collects and preserves movie memorabilia. The Shiawassee Arts Center hosts exhibits, competitions and classes as well as has their own permanent collection of works by artist Frederick Carl Frieseke and other artists. It is also home to the Owosso Speedway which hosts stock car and open wheel racing events and Saturday from April to September. The Steam Railroading Institute, Mitchell Amphitheatre and Lebowsky Center are all also worth exploring.
