Local scholarships available through Mt. Pleasant Area Community Foundation

Isabella County students, parents, and those considering a return to college may want to take note of the March deadline for scholarship applications offered through the Mt. Pleasant Area Community Foundation (MPACF).

Applicants have until Wednesday, March 3 at 4 p.m. to apply for one or more of the over 70 permanently endowed scholarship funds. Those interested in applying can do so online through the MPACF Scholarship Application System.

“The new scholarship portal allows for applicants to apply for scholarships from the comfort of their homes," says Jaimie Capen-Cascaddan, program officer at MPACF. “The online application will ask students questions to determine their eligibility for various scholarships that they can then apply for.”

Scholarship amounts and criteria for consideration vary. Some of the endowed scholarships are career-focused, such as scholarships for students pursuing a specific program or vocation. For others, being a graduating senior or college student from Isabella County is the main criteria for eligibility.

According to MPACF’s website, one in every three individuals who submit an application receives a scholarship.

“It's important for people to apply for these scholarships because it will provide them with a better chance at being awarded money to help pay for college expenses. Regardless of the student's grade point average, career field, or financial situation, there is likely a scholarship for them,” says Capen-Cascaddan.

Those who receive scholarships will be informed in late April, with an invitation to the Foundation's annual Scholarship Reception included with their congratulation letter or email.
