When considering gifts this Christmas season, you could gift a nice painting or other work of art to hang on a wall, sure. But consider this: Rather than give someone a piece of art, perhaps it might be nice to give someone the ability to paint or draw instead.
Then maybe next year they’ll gift you a painting of their own.
Either way, Art Reach of Mid Michigan has several classes currently available, each with the benefit of spreading the arts throughout the community, something the organization has done since 1981.
One unique class is Brews & Brushes, a monthly event that encourages participants to not only bring their brushes, but their favorite adult beverage as well. Art Reach currently has a Brews & Brushes subscription for 2020 available, which includes all 12 events for a one-time price of $300. Art Reach provides the supplies and canvas.
The next Brews & Brushes event is scheduled for Thursday, Jan. 30.
Also available is Drawing Fundamentals 1, an eight-week course that teaches students the basics of drawing. Students are taught the four types of contour line drawings, changes in depth, and more. The class, which costs $140, runs each Thursday, beginning on Jan. 9 and running through March 12.
Another course for beginners is the Beginning Colored Pencils class, though some developed drawing skills would be preferred. The colored pencils class is also $140 and runs each Tuesday, from Jan. 14 through March 3.
