From pastels to tie-dye, local arts organization offers classes and workshops throughout summer

School may be out for the summer but there’s no shortage of learning opportunities in the arts, this thanks to local arts organization Art Reach of Mid Michigan.

Art Reach, which is currently wrapping up its public art exhibition Art Flair, offers classes, workshops, and programming year-round.

On Saturday, July 13, it’s Painting in the Park, a four hour class that teaches outdoor painting techniques. The class gathers at Nelson Park in Mt. Pleasant with prices starting at $45.

Also beginning on Saturday, July 13, and occurring every Saturday through Aug. 3, is the Introduction to Oil Painting course. The class, which starts at $70, is held at the Art Reach location downtown.

A one-time Pastel Workshop is scheduled for Wednesday, July 17, at the downtown location. Organizers contend that the medium is an increasingly popular art form, and the workshop is designed for those to new to the form. The workshop starts at $55.

On Thursday, July 18, and Friday, July 19, it’s the Water & Sky Workshop, a class that teaches water- and sky-painting techniques with pastels. Classes begin at $100.

Painting the Town is designed for painters of all skill levels, including first-timers. Art Reach provides painting supplies for the event, which costs $35 for non-members and $30 for Art Reach members.

The basics of acrylic painting techniques will be taught on Saturday, July 20, at the Abstract Acrylics class, just $25 or $20 for members.

Bring your favorite white t-shirt or other fabric and give it a little pizazz at the Fun with Fabric tie-dye class, which starts at $30.

Most classes, unless otherwise noted, are to be held at the Art Reach of Mid Michigan location in downtown Mt. Pleasant.
