Virtual events planned for public to learn about Mt. Pleasant's 2050 Master Plan

One of the things Mt. Pleasant city leaders learned at last year’s public input events for the Master Planning process was that residents are passionate about their city. Estimates at the time placed more than 500 people at a week’s worth of public input events, well above what was then expected.

It can be presumed, then, that attendance for a series of public input events held virtually will be strong, too. The COVID-19 pandemic and its associated shutdowns will give residents that much more time to review the 2050 Master Plan.

The Master Plan is a document meant to inform and guide public policy reflective of the community’s needs and desires.

"The proposed plan is based upon the input we received from the community during our public engagement events in 2019," says Mt. Pleasant City Planner Jacob Kain.

"The virtual events will give the community the opportunity to learn even more about the plan and provide additional input in a safe and convenient format in light of the restrictions on in-person gatherings due to COVID-19."

On Monday, Aug. 17, an interactive web platform will be launched on the 2050 Master Plan website. Citizens can review and leave feedback on the current plan. It will remain online through Monday, Aug. 31.

On Thursday, Aug. 20, a virtual open house will be held at 7 p.m. City leaders and project consultant McKenna Associates will present the plan and field questions from the audience.

"We will need the community’s continued support in order to implement the vision over the next several years," Kain says.

"We are excited about the opportunity this plan creates to make Mt. Pleasant an even better place to live, work, and play in the future."
