Enjoy a staycation or vacation in Isabella County at one of these charming Bed & Breakfasts

If you are planning a vacation or a staycation in Isabella County, you may consider looking into one of the unique bed and breakfast establishments in the area. Whether Edwardian era elegance is your eye candy, you prefer a touch of the rugged wild west, or you’re looking for a European country atmosphere there are some wonderful local choices.

Pohl Bison Bed & Breakfast

A unique experience awaits guests at Pohl Bison Bed & Breakfast. Inspired by a trip to the western states, the owners began their bison farm venture. Located in rural Isabella County, guests stay in a lovely Amish-built log home with rooms offering views of the farm.

To get the full view of the farm, tours are provided for groups of 10 or more, during which guests ride in a wagon through pastures where the bison roam. According to owner Krista Pohl, guests really enjoy the relaxing quiet of the country atmosphere and many return year after year.

“We’ve had newlyweds who spent their honeymoon with us and return for their wedding anniversaries,” Pohl says.

Guests can take home a memento of their stay from the on-site gift story or shop in the boutique that features women’s apparel and jewelry. Pohl Bison Bed & Breakfast is open year-round and beautiful in every season, but rooms are only available on weekends. Call (989) 433-5841 for more information.

The Country Chalet & Edelweiss Haus Bed and Breakfast

Ron and Carolyn Lutz spent two years living in Germany, motivating them to build and operate a European-themed inn themselves, which they have now been doing since 1984.

Carolyn, a master gardener, has utilized their 25 acres of gently rolling countryside to cultivate flower gardens that please the eye and grow fresh produce that delights the palate. The Country Chalet & Edelweiss Haus Bed & Breakfast provides gourmet-quality breakfasts made with local organic eggs, meat, and produce grown on site.

Each guest room in the Edelweiss Haus – which was added in 2000 - comes with a private bath, wifi, and access to the wrap-around balcony on the second floor of the charming Swiss chalet style home.

Over the years, the Lutz family has played host to international and local guests alike.

“I’m at an age where people might think I’m too old to be doing this, but I just don’t want to give it up, it’s become a way of life for us,” says Ron. “We really enjoy our guests and the bed and breakfast experience.”
