Downtown Mt. Pleasant Christmas Celebration kicks off Friday, Dec. 2

What it is: Downtown Mt. Pleasant will be filled with holiday spirit December 2 and 3 during the annual Mt. Pleasant Christmas Celebration. This has been a community tradition for almost three decades in Mt. Pleasant, offering a variety of activities for the whole family.

What’s happening: The celebration kicks off Friday, December 2 from 5 to 8 p.m. on Broadway Street between Main and Franklin. Start the season off with special stage performances by Mountain Town Singers, Mt. Pleasant High School Chamber Singers, and the Mt. Pleasant School of Dance in front of Max & Emily’s. 
 
On Friday evening, the Winter Market will once again feature specialty crafts and food vendors including The Cheese People of Grand Rapids; Kiwanis Club of Mt. Pleasant; Pineview Farm Bake Shop; Love That Soap!; and Crochet Sisters. Plus, Candy Cane Lane will host a variety of children’s games and activities while experiencing the warmth and charm of downtown.
 
Throughout Franklin Street, event attendees are invited to take a holiday hayride through downtown while listening to holiday stories read aloud by Sleepy Dog Books and Chippewa River District Library. Plus, don’t miss visits with Santa and Santa’s reindeer round out the night’s festivities.

Saturday, December 3 the Christmas Celebration will continue from 8 a.m. to 9 p.m. 

Saturday highlights include the Jingle All-The-Way Kids Fun Run, and the adult 5K and 5 Mile Run – all starting at Max & Emily’s. Registration must be completed online. Races begin at 8 a.m., 8:25 a.m. and 8:30 a.m., with proceeds benefiting Toys for Tots.

A pancake breakfast with Santa is scheduled from 9 a.m. through noon at the Sacred Heart Parish Hall. Admission is $10 adults where children 10 years old and under cost $5 (children under four are free). Proceeds benefit the SHA Athletic Association. Tickets can be purchased at the Mt. Pleasant Parks and Recreation office located inside City Hall at 320 West Broadway.

Cookie decorating will take place at Max & Emily’s from 1 to 3 p.m. 

Presented by Coldwell Banker Mt. Pleasant Realty in partnership with Art Reach of Mid Michigan and Mercantile Bank, Christmas Celebration event goers can sit with Santa and share their holiday wish lists on Saturday from 3 to 6 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. at 304 E. Broadway.

The final event of the celebration – the lighted parade – starts at 6 p.m. on Saturday, beginning  at Main and Illinois Street and continuing down Main and Broadway. About 50 participants are expected to be part of the parade. B’s Music Shop will serve as parade Grand Marshal in celebration of their 20th anniversary.
