Murder mystery event returns in support of art education throughout mid Michigan

What’s happening: Art Reach of Mid Michigan has invited the public to join them for a murder mystery fundraiser. In this interactive “Clue-like” experience, attendees will work together as detectives to uncover the secrets of a mysterious murder during the wedding of the century and reveal the murderer. The event will take place Friday, April 21, 2023 at 6 p.m. in the Swan Creek and Black River rooms at the Soaring Eagle Casino in Mt. Pleasant.

Does this event sound familiar? This is the second annual murder mystery fundraiser. After the success of last year’s first-time event, Art Reach’s education coordinator Danny McQuarters Jr. said, “Last year we hosted the inaugural fundraiser and we found we received significant support from the community.”

“Due to the high demand, we chose to make it an annual fundraiser in order to allow everyone to attend,” he continues.“We found success in that it brought the community together … not only in mid Michigan, but around the state. It was exciting to see so many people gathered together to support Art Reach while having a killer good time.” (Last year’s theme was “I Love the 80s to Death.”)

The event will feature a silent auction, Italian-themed dinner, and cash bar, and is a “perfect event for adults of all ages,” according to Art Reach’s marketing coordinator, Jeffrey Silvernail.

Although not required, attendees are encouraged to dress in their best 1920’s wedding attire to match the theme of this year’s event: “Death of Gangster: A 1920’s Mafia Marriage Murder Mystery.” Traditional wedding attire is also encouraged.

Why it’s important: The mission of Art Reach is to promote, stimulate, and encourage involvement and appreciation of the arts in mid Michigan. As a non-profit organization, Art Reach plans to host their second annual Murder Mystery event in order to keep programs affordable to the public and sustain their educational programs, operations, and administrative costs.

When asked about their hopes for the event, McQuarters states that, “Our hope for the fundraiser is to raise enough money to support our programming. In particular, proceeds will be used to ensure our newest programs–Wee Wednesday & Club Create–are inexpensive for everyone.”

All proceeds from the Murder Mystery event will go directly back to Art Reach to help fund their programs and benefit their community.

How to help: To help support the fundraiser, Art Reach is seeking individual and business sponsorships. Sponsorship levels start at $250 and include an assortment of benefits including tickets to the event, promotions in print media, and recognition on the Art Reach website.
