The Redheads offer a delicious answer to an artificial world

You won't find dairy, trans-fat or wheat products on the list of ingredients in The Redheads' products. Just organic, whole foods, natural additives and preservatives, and minimal fat, sodium and sugar.

Sisters Christen and Sarah Landry are the Redheads behind the name; having worked in fine restaurants in Colorado and Ireland, they knew fresh flavor came from fresh ingredients. After they returned to their native Leelanau County, they opened Lake Leelanau's Kejara's Bridge in 1997 to make some fresh treats of their own. Their hummus and other veg-dominant items were such a hit, customers, family and friends convinced them to package and sell their food creations -- some were driving an hour or longer to enjoy the unique blend of flavors found at their combination coffeehouse/cafe/art gallery/musical venue.

Six years later, in 2003, the Landry sisters began selling their organic hummus to the public with the motto: "All the things you want in your food – and none of the things you don't!"

Over time, their product line expanded to three varieties of hummus (garlic, pesto and sun-dried tomato), herbed balsamic vinaigrette, homemade granola with premium ingredients such as cashews, a seasoning mix and veggie burgers.

Today, their creations are sold in stores from Detroit (Whole Foods Market) in the south to Harbor Springs (Harbor Springs IGA) in the north, with stops at Grand Rapids and Traverse City.

So how fresh is their food? They wait until receiving an order before preparing their dishes, which are then shipped overnight in ice packs to maintain quality.
