The old North Pacific warehouse in Williamsburg has a new use lately; as of August, it's been a distribution center for
Amerhart, shipping lumber and building materials all over Michigan.
Amerhart is a Green Bay, Wisc.-based company that wholesales building materials to retail building yards and industrial customers. The Williamsburg location is their first distribution center in Michigan, but their sixth overall.
The distribution center opened officially on August 2, and employs 14 people currently.
Jeff Williams, branch manager at the new center, says so far they've been busy, and their distribution area shows it.
"Our delivery area is everything north of U.S. 10, and up to the eastern part of the Upper Peninsula," he says. "Soon we'll be expanding further south toward Grand Rapids and Muskegon."
Eventually, Amerhart will be able to deliver in most of lower Michigan.
While more hiring may take place when that happens, right now the center is busy serving its existing customer base. Amerhart's other locations are in Wisconsin, with one also in Illinois.
