Einstein Cycles opens in Traverse City

Traverse City is a bicycling town, and the proof is in the success of the newest bike shop to open its doors, Einstein Cycles.

Right off the TART trails, the shop offers everything cycling, from rentals to repairs. It's owned by Jason Lowetz, who started Einstein Cycles as an expression of his love for racing, whether that's road, mountain or the new-to-northern-Michigan cyclocross.

"I opened the shop with the main goal to get more people into cycling. Cycling is my passion," says Lowetz.

While you'll find everything ranging from mountain bike to daily commuter bikes, to helmets, lights, and other accessories at the shop, Lowetz says more is yet to come for Einstein Cycles, which just opened three months ago. High-end European imports grace the displays, but he's also focused on making sure Traverse City riders have everything they need for winter riding.

"We will be getting into winter cycling gear and bicycles--yes, it's possible, even in Northern Michigan--as I personally ride year round and would like to help others to do the same, both safely and comfortably," he says.

In the same vein, there are group rides organized from the shop, which sometimes are educational, like teaching new riders how to ride within a group. Lowetz isn't stopping there; his Einstein Racing team, with the help of Traverse City Parks and Recreation, is building a cyclocross course and will be holding clinics and a race series on cyclocross this fall to get people more familiar and involved with the sport, which originated in Europe.

You can keep updated on what Einstein Cycles is doing through their blog or Facebook. They're open six days a week from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m, closed Sundays.
