McLaren will be new Benzonia Library director

There are a lot of changes going on at the Benzonia Public Library this spring, but the latest news is that it has a new director to lead the way through them.

Amanda McLaren has been named the new library director for the Benzonia Public library, according to an announcement from the library.

She's most recently been the librarian for Benzie Central Middle School, and previously worked at the Interlochen Library.

McLaren comes to the library during a time of change; since January, renovations in the historic building have been underway, with some collections and resources in storage and others moved to new locations. Most recently, wall repair is being done in the fiction and nonfiction rooms. New shelving and other upgrades will accompany that when it's done. Other improvements include an enclosed stairway at the back of the building to improve exits and entrances, and changes to interior walls to give the library a little more space.

This spring, new parking and landscaping will round out the new changes at the library.

The Benzonia Public Library is located at 891 Michigan Avenue, in the Mills Community House in Benzonia, and serves residents and visitors throughout Benzie County. It also recently expanded its hours, opening at 10 a.m. each day.
