Traverse City's
Hagerty Insurance is doing its part to encourage the next generation of classic-car enthusiasts with a new contest the agency has announced.
Hagerty launched their first Youth Reporter Contest, part of their Operation Ignite! youth advocacy programs. The contest gives youth ages 8 to 17 the chance to go to four major auto events this summer during their break from school, as Hagerty's official Youth Reporter for 2011.
Each would-be young reporter has to upload a video, three to five minutes long, that shows off their reporting skills on a collector car event of topic, to the contest website. The deadline to enter is May 1. The winner will be chosen in part by public voting once the top ten videos have been selected. Interviews with hobbyists, auto industry leaders and others are some of the ideas for the videos, with more details and submission guidelines on the
company's website.
The chosen youth reporter, along with a parent or guardian, will get four all-expenses-paid trips to major auto events, including the Monterey Classic Car Week in August, and while they're there, are assigned to create video reports on the happenings from the perspective of a young attendee.
"The Youth Reporter Contest expands our youth-focused programs to reach a new group of young enthusiasts who are passionate about sharing their interest and knowledge of collector cars," says McKeel Hagerty, CEO of the agency. "We hope that we find the new star of a young generation of collectors who will inspire other youth to get involved in the hobby."
