Tour 18 wineries this weekend to help 'Toast the Season'

There's no doubt that wine in our area is a big deal (and a tasty one), so it's wonderful that the Leelanau Peninsula Vinters Association has arranged for a tour this weekend of 18 wineries to help "Toast the Season."

The tour, which runs Nov. 13 and 14, allows for self-guided tours of the wineries, which will pour a sampling of their best wine, accompanied by a gourmet food sampling. The wineries will be decorated for the holidays to add to the fun and spirit of the season.

The cost of the wine tasting package, which includes lodging at the Homestead Resort, is $49.50 per person, per night, or $75 per couple. The Homestead (www.thehomesteadresort.com) is Northern Michigan's largest waterfront resort community, located in the heart of the Sleeping Bear Dunes

"This is a great time for families and friends to gather to celebrate the upcoming season and even get started on their holiday shopping," says winemaker Adam Satchwell of Shady Lane Cellars. "Wines and other items from Leelanau Peninsula tasting rooms are the perfect gift for the holidays. Our wines compliment holiday meals, cocktail parties or any gathering and they make great gifts."

At your starting winery you will be given a commemorative glass, an LPVA holiday ornament and a holiday gift bag featuring food from the members of Sleeping Bear Gourmet. Couple ticket holders receive two glasses, pours and food, but only one gift basket and ornament.
