Mt. Holiday Ski and Recreation Area is planning something special to kick off the fall season, with their first October Family Fun Fest scheduled for Saturday, Oct. 9.
They've partnered with Traverse City's
Right Brain Brewery to bring the flavors of fall to northwest Michigan residents, with not only some of Right Brain's signature brews on hand, but also a chicken wing competition to go with it. Amateurs and pros both can enter in one of four categories; hot, mild, BBQ and saucy. Amateur entry fee is $55, but includes wings and all the needed supplies. Entries in the professional category are free, but entrants must bring their own supplies. The form to enter is online
here. The deadline to register for the wings contest is Sept. 30.
And while the brews and wings are served, there are plenty of kids' activities as well. Tandem Ciders and Wild Bill's Root Beer also are serving up drinks, and the day, which runs from 1 to 7 p.m. at Mt. Holiday, includes live music, face painting, a bounce house, ice cream truck and crane game. The Michigan-Michigan State game will also be on for all college football fans.
The prices are set to draw people in, at just $10 for adults and $5 for kids, with children 5 years old and younger getting in free of charge. The adult admission includes one drink ticket and five food tickets, while kids' admission includes one drink ticket and three food tickets.
Admission prices go to benefit Mt. Holiday, which is a nonprofit ski and recreation area serving the Traverse City area. They are in need of a new walk-in cooler and freezer, as well as to help defray the general maintenance costs of the ski hill.
