New contest awards money to start new business in northern Michigan

There's a new business plan competition open to entrepreneurs located in and around Ludington.

The Momentum Business Plan Competition is administered by the Ludington and Scottvile Chamber of Commerce, and the top prize in the competition is $50,000, to start a new business or relocate an existing business into Mason County.

It's open to any independent for-profit or non-profit venture with a viable business idea, plan or invention, or to an existing business or organization with less than $100,000 in sales or revenue annually.

The place to find all the information on Momentum is online, where those eligible can find out more about the competition and upload a business plan until July 31.

The contest is funded by the Pennies from Heaven Foundation. Also included in the prize is business mentoring and related services. Five finalists will pitch their ideas in person before judges in August.
