North Peak Brewing Company pays tribute to “Dogman” lore with fourth beer offering

Whether or not you think the stories about northern Michigan's "Dogman" are true, there's no doubt it's made it's mark on the region -- and North Peak Brewing's fourth bottled beer, rolled out this year, plans to do the same.

The Traverse City brewer, part of Northern United Brewing Company, created "Vicious," a dry-hopped American wheat IPA, with the Dogman (http://www.michigan-dogman.com) in mind, and the signature retro-look label bears the legendary creature's likeness as well.

The mythical connections make fall the perfect time of year to try out the brew, says Greg Lobdell, one of the managing partners of Northern United Brewing Company.

"Vicious, like all of the North Peak beer icons, is born out of Northern lore," he says. "'Dogman' sightings and encounters have been reported throughout Northern Michigan over the years – especially this time of year."

The hoppy brew marks the fourth offering on the retail market from the company, joining their "Siren," "Diabolical," and "Majestic" craft beers. North Peak emphasizes local hops and ingredients, grown through the Old Mission Hop Exchange.

It can be found both at retail outlets and on tap at restaurants and bars statewide, including North Peak Brewing Company and Jolly Pumpkin in Traverse City.
