Versus Technology helps Pittsburgh-based surgical center improve workflow

St. Clair Hospital Outpatient Surgery Center in Pittsburgh, Penn., has selected the Versus Advantages Real-time Locating System, known in the industry simply as RTLS, from Versus Technology to improve work flow.

The RTLS is expected to help improve nurse-to-patient assignment and continue automated nurse call cancellation functionality throughout the 34,000-square-foot center. The center anticipates an increase in patient volume and looked to RTLS automation to enhance their work flow processes.

Versus has provided location information, call cancellation and patient flow to St. Clair for many years. This was primarily to automate a separate system provided by another vendor that no longer fully supports the product. The Outpatient Surgery Center genuinely relied on this system for displaying patient and nurse location, assigning nurses to patients and patient readiness. However, the system required manual data entry and is no longer supported.

Versus combined efforts with Pittsburgh-based Intelligent Electronic Systems to help make the new RTLS. It uses much of St. Clair's existing network and keeps many of the older, well-liked features and automates several new features to improve patient care and efficiency.

The system will also help departments better communicate about patient readiness and room availability due to real-time locating of patients, staff and equipment.
