Former Delft Theater in Marquette gets grant for rehab

During a recent round of community development funding from the Michigan Economic Development Corporation, a grant to the Delft Theater in Marquette was announced.

The historic downtown theater will get funding for rehabilitation into a restaurant and dinner theater, with the help of the City of Marquette, which applied for the grant.

The amount is $481,000 in community development block grant funds. The project includes a rooftop deck, flexible stage for live performances, and balcony seating. Another $10,000 is coming from the Marquette Downtown Development Authority, along with nearly $1.3 million in private investment from the building's owners.

One condition of the grant funding is that the rehabilitation project create at least 26 jobs, with half of those going to low- to moderate-income employees.
