Everyday Wines opens in Marquette

There's a new place to buy your favorite wines thanks to Daniel and Betsy Rutz.

The couple decided to open Everyday Wines, located on Baraga Street in Marquette, after talking with their fellow wine connoisseurs about the lack of a shop dedicated to the beverage.

The owners listened as their fellow wine drinkers talked about ordering wine off the Internet, or only buying select brands while visiting nearby cities outside of the U.P.

"As we heard this chorus more often we realized there was room in the U.P. for a shop dedicated to wine and that, hopefully, we could keep some of that business here, locally," says Daniel Rutz.

The shop caters to both wine aficionados as well as those who've never had a sip. Prices are under $25 for the selections with a bulk of them under $15, and the owners make a point of having tasted everything they carry in the store to better help people of all interest and taste. Wines range from vineyards in familiar locations, such as Bordeaux or Sonoma, all the way to unfamiliar places, such as Lebanon or New Mexico.

"If it's quality wine at a good price we'll carry it," says Rutz.

In addition to wine, the shop carries an assortment of cooking oils, vinegars, hand-crafted sodas, olives, capers as well as tapas and bruchettas.

"We're also very excited about the items from our Marquette neighbors," says Rutz. "For convenience we have bread from the Marquette Baking Co. and a small selection of artisan cheeses from the cheese counter of Huron Earth Deli. The treats from Gourmet Girl are available at Everyday Wines, too. She specializes in small bite appetizers and desserts, the idea of having a wide assortment of small items to nibble on."
