Marquette General to build new hospital

While complete details are still being worked out by Marquette General Hospital and Duke LifePoint Healthcare, one thing is for certain -- there is going to be a new hospital in Marquette.

Duke LifePoint, which owns MGH, recently announced its plans to construct a new 265-bed hospital to replace the current facilities. The hospital is expected to be built within the city limits and will include an adjoining 168,000-square-foot office building.

Discussions for renovating and expanding the current hospital, which is located on College Ave., came to a close once the numbers were crunched. Such a project would cost approximately $230 million, while an all-new hospital and office building will come with a price tag of approximately $290 million.

The project will take several years to complete, but during a press conference it was indicated that the current hospital will remain open and operating until the new facility is completed.

Duke LifePoint indicated more information would be made available in the coming months in terms of location, design and more.
