It's always nice to be recognized for your efforts to promote entrepreneurial growth and economic development. The
City of Sault Ste. Marie was recently honored with the title of Four Star Community by the researchers at the
University of Michigan-Dearborn's iLabs.
“It is an honor to have been recognized again this year for our entrepreneurial spirit and climate here in the Sault," says Kristen Claus, executive director of the
Sault Ste. Marie EDC. "The designation is an acknowledgement of the collaboration and cooperative efforts to foster, support, and grow our own local entrepreneurs and businesses."
Sault Ste. Marie has helped bolster the entrepreneurial climate with the oldest industrial incubator in the state--having been in operation since 1972--as well as support from the EDC and Lake Superior State University. Additionally, a cooperative effort between multiple organizations helped create and operate the Sault Ste. Marie Advanced Resources and Technology (SSMart) as a resource for entrepreneurs and businesses.
Other communities in the Upper Peninsula that were recognized include Marquette Charter Township (Five-Star Community) and the city of Marquette (Four Star).
