Bridgefest scheduled for June 18-20

There will be plenty of fun things to do, once again, in Houghton and Hancock come June 18.

That's when Bridgefest 2010 kicks off. The festival, which was originally organized to celebrate the "birthday" of the portage Lake Lift Bridge, will take place over three days and will feature a variety of events.

On June 18, around 3 p.m., vendors and exhibit booths will begin to open along the Houghton Waterfront area, allowing those who are in town for the annual parade, which is at 7 p.m., to do a little shopping beforehand. At 5 p.m., the Houghton Rotary Seafoodfest kicks off at Ray Kestner Park. There will be plenty of delicious food to enjoy, including live lobster.

The weekend celebration will include several concerts, contests and sporting events as well as boat tours and the annual fireworks display. On June 19, there will be a fishing derby at Porvoo Park in Hancock and rubber ducky races at 1 p.m. on the Houghton Waterfront. The fireworks will be visible along the Portage Waterway and will take place around 10:30 p.m. June 19.
