Coming Up: Small Town and Rural Development Conference

What's happening: The Community Economic Development Association of Michigan hosts its annual Small Town and Rural Development Conference June 9-11 at Crystal Mountain in Thompsonville.

About the conference: Over the past 20 years, the conference has been the driving force behind positive change in rural Michigan. The conference features fellow leaders, expert speakers and actionable strategies to revitalize communities. Critical topics include downtown revitalization, housing solutions, and community economic development strategies.

Put Your Town on the Map: The conference kicks off Monday with the top 10 communities presenting their pitches about their innovations for the Consumers Energy Put Your Town on the Map Competition. The Consumers Energy Foundation offers grants to help put communities on the map. First place is awarded $25,000; second place, $15,000; and third place, $10,000. Last year's first-place winner was Imlay City in Lapeer County.
