Jack’s Fresh Market in Manistique expands to 44,000 square feet in new building

Residents of Manistique have the convenience of a much larger and more varied selection at the grocery store this summer, thanks to the opening of Jack's Fresh Market on U.S. 2.

The store, built by Moyle Construction of Houghton, is the next incarnation of the former Jack's SuperValu on Maple Street, but can boast of many more amenities.

The new store is 44,000 square feet, more than twice the size of the old 20,000 square-foot store, says owner Jack Ziminski, who has been in business in Manistique since 1989.

They've been open at the new location since May 18 and things are going very well, he says.

"We put on an extra 30 employees already," Ziminski says, with more to come.

Each department has expanded within the store, meaning bigger meat, bakery, grocery and other sections. Notably, the deli area was expanded greatly, and now includes a sit-down eating area with a café serving paninis, sandwiches, coffee and espresso drinks, as well as a made-to-order sandwich bar, soup and salad bar.

A branch of mBank also opened inside the store, offering full-service banking to Jack's Fresh Market customers.

"We just needed a bigger store, with more space and more storage, and that's what we have now," Ziminiski says.
