Marine Trades Institute receives $10,000 grant from Enbridge

What's happening: The Marine Trades Institute in Cedarville has received a $10,000 Fueling Futures grant from Enbridge. The money will support the school's purchase of essential equipment, "directly enhancing the educational experience for students training for careers as marine carpenters, technicians and more," the Marine Trades Institute announced in a press release.

The result: The Enbridge grant, along with a U.S.D.A. Rural Development Grant and the school's own funds have enabled the purchase of a 2022 Dodge Ram 1500 4WD truck. The new vehicle is needed to safely transport boats and other equipment necessary for student training. The bid was awarded to O'Connors of Pickford following a competitive bidding process.

What they're saying: "We appreciate the continued support from Enbridge through their Fueling Futures grant to help us acquire equipment that positively impacts students in both training programs here at (Marine Trades Institute)," said Tom Coates, who is director of development at the Cedarville school.

About the Marine Trades Institute: Originally known as the Great Lakes Boat Building School, the institute was founded in 2005 with a mission to preserve traditional wooden boat building craftsmanship.  The school initially focused on wooden boat building and restoration. Since then, the school has grown to provide comprehensive career training in wooden boat building and related services, as well as establishing Marine Service Technology, a program that prepares students to become entry-level marine technicians.
