Grilled cheese has found a new home on
Northern Michigan University’s campus with the recent opening of Melted.
The new dining option, located in NMU’s C.B. Hedgcock building in the former Temaki & Tea location, offers grilled cheese in a variety of ways. Diners can choose from classic grilled cheese, called Grilled Cheese 100, which includes choice of bread and choice of cheese, all the way up to Grilled Cheese 400, which includes some inspired creations like the Flying Dutchman--some tasty apples and ham with all that gooey cheese.
"When the Wildcat Den switched to an All You Care to Eat dining facility, we received some push back from guests because they liked being able to go into that location to get just a grilled cheese sandwich every day," says chef Nathan Mileski. "We looked at current industry trends and this concept is out there right now being served out of food trucks. We also looked at grilled cheese sales across campus at our other locations and decided that there was a demand for it. By creating one central destination for grilled cheese, we can give our guests the ease of finding their grilled cheese location served a la carte. Also, with a menu full cheesy, gooey, comfort food, you can't go wrong."
The hours of operation are fairly limited, however, with the location being open from 10:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. Monday through Thursday.
Melted will also have some soups, grab-and-go salads, interesting desserts--like an apple pie combination on sweet brioche bread--and beverages.
