Plenty of cities have their own smartphone applications to guide visitors and even locals to hotspots and restaurants. Now, Marquette can count itself among those locations, with the release of a new iPhone app developed by
Prometheus Tree.
The app is called inMarquette and is available online in the Apple iTunes Store. The developers are also working on an Android version to be released soon.
It offers users a local guide to restaurants, shopping, hotels, sights to see, and even provides emergency contact information like the sheriff's office and Marquette General Hospital. Another popular feature with many users so far, no surprise, has been the discounts and special offers available at local shops and restaurants for inMarquette users.
Prometheus Tree, LLC, the developer, was co-founded by Rob Johnson and Josh Morrison, both Northern Michigan University students. The newly-formed company does mobile software development and local advertising, and won the first place prize in NMU's New Business Venture competition this year.
The application was designed as an informational guide for visitors or those who are planning a trip to Marquette, as well as new residents or NMU students getting familiar with the town. InMarquette includes a calendar of events, points of interests like museums, recreation and leisure information, FAQs and history, wining and dining, lodging, shopping, and the emergency contacts.
Local businesses have stepped up to support the use of the new app, too, with promotional offers.
"We are very happy with the positive response that we have received with this app from the community. The cooperation that we have received from local organizations has provided an incredible asset to the community, its citizens and its visitors." says Johnson.
