What's happening: The Outdoor Recreation Innovation Action Network (ORIAN) hosts the U.P. Outdoor Summit on Friday, May 16, at the Innovation Hall at the Jacobetti Complex on the campus of Northern Michigan University in Marquette. The Outdoor Recreation Industry Growth Strategy will be presented. The keynote presenter is Sarah Lucas, director of Michigan's Office of Rural Prosperity, who will explore the connection between outdoor recreation and rural prosperity, highlighting how the outdoor industry can drive sustainable growth.
About the conference: The one-day conference is a gathering of outdoor recreation advocates and changemakers to showcase and celebrate the work accomplished so far, share research findings and foster collaboration opportunities to promote a healthy outdoor recreation ecosystem in the region. In addition to the release of the strategy for outdoor recreation industry growth, the feasibility and other aspects of electrified trails will be discussed.
What they're saying: "The summit will be a great chance to network and build communities," says Phil Britton, a facilitator and spokesman for the Outdoor Recreation Innovation Action Network. "People tend to operate in silos -- whether it's power sports, rock climbing, hiking -- the summit is designed to showcase the work that has been done and build connections."
