The buzz in the arts community is getting pretty thick about a new movie that a local businessman plans to film in Marquette this summer.
The film, called
Meteor right now, will be executive-produced by
Up Front & Company restaurant owner Rhys Mussman, who also is president of his own film production company, called Moon Sun Pictures.
He's teaming up with director J.J. Azan of Cinema House, another independent film company based in Hollywood, California.
The film itself? Well, it's described as a buddy comedy with an extraterrestrial twist, after two friends find a meteor carrying an alien visitor with it to its crash site.
Meteor's production team is planning to film quite a bit in Marquette, shooting city, beach and college scenes, among others.
"We could shoot the movie anywhere, but I really felt it was a wonderful way to showcase this amazing city and the incredible talent located throughout the region," Mussman says.
Northern Michigan University and the Marquette Arts and Culture Center are among those taking on supporting roles in the film's production, as Mussman and Azan say they want to take full advantage of the town's budding theatrical talent in the form of extras and cast members, including locals and students.
"There is a real need for extras of all sizes and shapes and we hope to get a good turnout when we start filming in August," says Azan.
