It's not often that one would think a company like
BF Goodrich would take note of any location in the Upper Peninsula, let alone one of it's island communities. But it has, as noted when the tire company honored Drummond Island recently as one of the 2010 Outstanding Trails.
Members of the Drummond Island Off-Road Club were in attendance as representatives of BF Goodrich Tires presented a grant totaling $4,000 to the club's president to be used to preserve the scenic off-highway trail system in place on the island.
According to BF Goodrich's website, Drummond Island was chosen because of it's beauty and challenge it presents to off-road enthusiasts. The trail system offers more than 115 miles of trail laid out in a close-loop system and provides a wide-range of riding opportunities. Many of the trails on the island run along stone ridges that were carved out by Lake Huron.
"Surrounded by the waters of Lake Huron, set deep into a boreal forest, Drummond Island offers a riding experience that is truly unique and exciting; it's one of the finest trail systems in the Northeast United States," said Joe Mazur, light truck brand category manager for BF Goodrich Tires. "We're honored to join with the Drummond Island Off-Road club to help in the conservation efforts for this amazing off-road trail system, and are extremely proud of the work that this club does year-round to keep this trail open for use."
The Drummond Island Off-Road club is a not-for-profit organization that works to create a legal, safe and unique trail system for the riding public to experience and enjoy.
