One of the world's best ragtime and boogie-woogie pianists,
Bob Milne, is coming to the historic Braumart Theater in Iron Mountain this June.
The
Friends of the Braumart are presenting a concert by Milne at 7:00 p.m. June 7. Milne may be known to local music fans as the founder of the Frankenmuth Ragtime Festival downstate, or from his many regional and national performances.
Milne is considered the best ragtime and boogie-woogie pianist in the world, and has been filmed and recorded by the Library of Congress as a national treasure. He often serves as a musical ambassador for the U.S. Department of State, and performs about 250 times annually, including at many ragtime and jazz music festivals around the world.
And Milne's not resting on his laurels; he is famed for his modest presentation and engaging performances.
"If I have been given any ability at all it, is my duty to honor it by trying to improve that ability every time I perform," Milne says of his work.
Milne also founded the Michigan Music Retreat, a four-day educational event at which he teaches music and music history to students of all ages each September.
Concert tickets are available in advance at The Drug Store, The Music Tree, Dickinson Area Partnership and Jim's Music Store. They are $15 for adults and $10 for students in advance; at the door the cost is $20 for adults and $15 for students ages 12 to 18. Children under 12 are admitted free with an adult. The concert is sponsored by Champion Incorporated and Results Broadcasting, and proceeds go to the restoration of the historic Braumart Theater as a performing arts center.
