A new chiropractic office has opened in downtown Iron Mountain, bringing a well-traveled family with ties to the area back home.
Tomas and Laura Hemgren both are chiropractors, and are taking new patients at their office, 231 East A Street, in Iron Mountain. They opened officially in mid-September and have been busy so far, both at work and at home.
The couple has two young children, and moved to Iron Mountain to be closer to Laura's family; she's originally from Florence, Wis.
"It was the right time to come back and be closer to family, with the kids," she says.
Previously, they lived and worked in Ireland for eight years, developing a chiropractic practice there, midway between Tomas' and Laura's homes: Tomas is originally from Sweden.
And the name of the practice,
Kaizen Chiropractic, shows yet another global influence, as kaizen is Japanese in origin.
"It's the Japanese concept of continual, never-ending improvement, which really gels with our philosophy," says Laura.
Their philosophy of care includes regular chiropractic visits for a variety of conditions, particularly nerve, muscle and chronic pain, as well as having the benefit of providing a drug-free treatment option.
The Hemgrens practice what they preach, as well, getting regular chiropractic checkups themselves.
