Cliffs Natural Resources made the top ten of an elite list from
Barron's, which annually ranks publicly-traded companies.
Cliffs is No. 7 on the
Barron's 500 America's Top Companies list, which ranks companies based on cash flow, return on investment, and revenue growth. Cliffs was the only mining and natural resources company in the top 10.
The publication also gives companies letter grades on performance; Cliffs' grade was A, with a perfect 4.0 grade point average across several categories.
The recognition follows a similar ranking from
Fortune magazine, which listed Cliffs in its top 500 companies, as well.
Cliffs owns mining operations in Australia, Canada and the U.S., and has iron ore mining operations in the U.P. It's been expanding iron ore operations worldwide, diversifying its holdings in other natural resources, like coal, and seeing increased production and higher resource prices worldwide, all of which have contributed to the company's growth.
