Osmose buys Hubbell's Peninsula Copper Industries

Peninsula Copper Industries, in Hubbell, has a new owner. It's not much of a stretch to see why Osmose, based in Griffin, Georgia, has bought the U.P. copper-based chemical supplier; Osmose has been one of its chief customers for decades.

Osmose is a supplier of wood preservative products, and has bought copper compounds like copper carbonate and cupric oxide from Peninsula Copper Industries for more than 25 years. Now, it has bought PCI's entire production assets; the company itself, as part of an extension of control over its supply chain.

"The acquisition of PCI is another important step in our integration into the manufacture of copper compounds that are essential to the production of our MicroPro, NatureWood, ACQ, and CCA preservative products," says Paul Goydan, president of Osmose. "This acquisition strengthens Osmose's commitment to support the wood preservation business in North America and the world."

Peninsula Copper Industries will continue to supply and distribute its copper-based products under a manufacturing contract with Osmose.
And, Osmose is making itself known to Keweenaw business leaders in a June meeting coming up with the Keweenaw Economic Development Alliance. Hopefully, they'll become a valued part of the Hubbell business community, as PCI has been.
