Marquette sports nutritionist offers online consultation, programs

Athletes are busy people, focusing their time and energy on improving their performance and sculpting their bodies. That's why Donna Marlor, a sports nutritionist from Marquette, has taken the steps to making sports nutrition programs easy to obtain no matter how busy an athlete's schedule. She's begun offering her custom services via her website.

"I love sports nutrition," says Marlor. "It is fascinating. I apply new research to my own competitive life in cross-country skiing, running, triathlons, et cetera. Athletes are very motivated people and push the envelope, so they need professional knowledge."

Marlor specializes in endurance athletes. But she has a wide variety of athletes she has worked with in the past, such as mushers, race car drivers, recreational hikers, soccer players and even kayakers.

Sports nutrition is much more customized than general weight loss. Typical services offered by Marlor focus on body composition, improving lean-to-fat ratio, problems with fatigue, gastro-intestinal problems, menu planning and supplement recommendations.

Marlor's workload varies, though is admittedly heavier in the winter months, but she notes she writes articles for two magazines, Race Center and Silent Sports Monthly.

"So lots of people get free advice," she laughs.

Any type of athlete will benefit from her services, says Marlor, and notes that anyone seeking sports nutrition advice needs to consult a professional to ensure proper information.

"I always individualize my services," she says. "There is no such thing as a diet that works for everyone."
