Houghton Best Western rebrands as Magnuson Hotel Franklin Square

Changes are in store at the Best Western hotel in Houghton. For one, it's not a Best Western anymore.

Instead, owner Gary Lubinski made the leap to become rebranded as a Franklin Square Inn, part of the Magnuson Hotel chain. The 104-room hotel had been a Best Western for 19 years.

Lubinski says the change came as part of a strategy to upgrade the hotel's market position in the area.

"Magnuson Hotels continues to grow exponentially with a more flexible business model that makes perfect sense. As Internet reservations continue to thrive, generating more growth, I'm excited to partner with Magnuson Hotels to capitalize on this trend," says Lubinski.

The Franklin Square Inn is an independently owned and operated hotel affiliated with the Magnuson Hotels. It's located near Michigan Technological University, Portage Lake, Isle Royale National Park, Finlandia University, the Keweenaw National Historic Park and Houghton's downtown.

Magnuson Hotels has been growing fast in the past eight years, making it into the top 8 hotel chains globally, with 2,000 hotels worldwide.
