The
Greater Ishpeming-Negaunee Area Chamber of Commerce knew they had someone special when they hired Elizabeth Peterson as the organization's executive director. What they didn't know is that she's throw herself into her work the way she has, even adding onto her education to better fill her role.
Peterson recently competed her first year at the Institute for Organization Management, a program produced by the U.S. Chamber of Commerce. The program is a four-year nonprofit training course at the University of Wisconsin. The professional development program consists of four annual sessions focusing on professional growth and development for association, chamber and other nonprofit professionals.
"Institute participants are recognized across the country as leaders in their communities," says Raymond Towle, the U.S. Chamber's vice president of Institute for Organization Management. "These individuals have the knowledge, skills, and dedication to achieve professional and organizational success in the dynamic association and chamber industries."
During the four years, most Institute participants attend the one-week sessions at the same site, building valuable relationships with others in the industry. Through a combination of required courses and electives, Institute participants are able to enhance their own organizational management skills and add new fuel to their organizations, making them run more efficiently and effectively.
