Local Sault Ste. Marie contest winner will open for Meatloaf for Kewadin's 25th anniversary

Bay Mills resident Kellan Perron is getting a chance many young performers would love to have this week, as the opening act for iconic star Meat Loaf at the Kewadin Casino's 25th Anniversary Summer Festival on July 24.

Perron is a local student who won the Soo Theatre International Idol competition, taking home the title of grand champion in the 14 and over division. Also included in the prize was the chance to open for Meat Loaf, $500 worth of studio time at Lake Street Studio in Brimley, and other performance opportunities.

He was one of 29 contestants, and says he'll enjoy the chance to perform at the July 22 to 24 festival.

"I am thrilled to have this opportunity to not only do something that I really love to do but to do it on such a major stage and with a professional crew of people at Kewadin," says Perron. "I can't wait to perform."

Perron's in pretty famous company, as the festival also will feature Bret Michaels and Vince Neil, Three Doors Down, and many other celebrity appearances including Henry "The Fonz" Winkler, Detroit Lions players, and Playboy Playmates.

Other attractions include contests, vendors, golf and NASCAR simulators, games, and daily fireworks shows.

A three-day pass to the festival is $75, and single-day passes are $50. Cash sales will be available at the box office during the festival. All festival events will be held at Kewadin Casino Sault Ste. Marie from noon to 10 p.m.
