Two restaurants in the
Kewadin Casinos are making healthy dining choices a little bit easier with a revamp in their menus.
The
DreamCatchers Restaurant in Sault Ste. Marie and the
Horseshoe Bay Restaurant in St. Ignace unveiled their new menu options May 17, offering up lunch and dinner items with modified recipes that better conform to the
Dietary Guidelines for Americans. That means lower calories, lower total and saturated fats and lower carbohydrates -- all which total a healthier meal and a heart-conscious choice.
"It's just been the first week, but we've had pretty good sales," notes Tim Cairns, the assistant manager of the DreamCatchers Restaurant.
The menu choices are marked with a logo and range from breakfast and lunch items to salads to a dinner plate. Choices include a chicken Caesar wrap, a shrimp salad and even broiled Lake Superior whitefish, among others. Breakfast items can substitute healthier "Egg Beaters" instead of higher-calorie eggs. The items are less than, or equal to, 500 calories with 15 grams or less total fat and four carbs.
The new menu items were a result of a partnership between the
Sault Tribe Diabetes Program, the
Sault Tribe Strategic Alliance for Health and the casinos.
