If you're on the fast track in your office or business, or maybe just wish you were, the Lake Superior Leadership Academy might be the next good idea you take on.
The academy is accepting applications for the 2011-12 class, which introduces new and potential leaders in their fields to those at the top of each field, and gives them a primer on how the community, economy, and social system really works around here.
In its 14th year, the academy has had more than 250 alumni who leave the program with a better understanding of community needs, as well as their own leadership abilities. The eight-month program starts in October of 2011 and includes work with leaders in the regional economy, government, justice system, educational system, media, health and human services, and arts and culture, as well as NMU's ROTC program, which adds hands-on leadership and group training to the academy.
"We absolutely need community leaders who have a well-rounded knowledge of how the community syncs among the corporate, government and non-profit level," says Lindsay Hemmila, facilitator of the academy. "Our goal is to give the class members an up close look on how their county wide community works. Armed with that education and the network developed throughout the class, they are better prepared to step into leadership roles."
Applications are open through July 31, and are available through the Lake Superior Community Partnership
online.
