Iron Mountain native designs new hummingbird feeder with 54 nectar ports

David Dault is the owner of machine and die company Focus Mold and Machining, Inc., in Iron Mountain. But he's used his mechanical expertise to create another company, and another whole new product.

He also owns Love My Birds, which sells his patent-pending hummingbird feeder and accessories, called the "Hum Sweet Hum" feeder. He says the two companies fit very well together.

"Being able to make tooling for feeders in very little time allows creativity, customer input, and great ideas to be implemented into our products effortlessly," Dault says.

The new feeder offers 54 ports for birds to drink at, which is more true to real life than most hummingbird feeders, as the many-faceted ports are more like flowers. The feeders are sold in one, two or three tiers, and include other innovative features like ant moats and a versatile filling system to be used with sugar and water, or nectars.

The design was born from experience, as Dault and his family have fed birds since he was a child, and he felt there was a need for a better hummingbird feeder. He began designing feeders about two years ago.

Dault's feeders have been featured in Birders World and Birds and Blooms magazines, as well as in newspapers and birding websites.
