Derek Bush named as new regional economic development liaison for LSCP

There's a fresh new face at Lake Superior Community Partnership, as recent Northern Michigan University graduate Derek Bush has been hired as a regional economic development liaison for the group.

Bush's background is in economic development work, including an internship with Governor Snyder's office in Marquette and work with NMU's Center for Economic Education and Entrepreneurship and Center for Rural Community and Economic Development, and a senior research project on economic development in the U.P. in the 21st Century. He graduated from NMU with a Bachelor of Arts in economics, minoring in Spanish, and with full honors.

The new position is part of new priorities from the Governor's office and the Michigan Economic Development Corporation, which created the Collaborative Development Council to direct regional economic development and strengthen relationships locally. In the U.P., that translates to additional staffing resources.

Bush will be helping the council members in the U.P. track economic development progress through two software programs, Salesforce and Location One Information System. The plan is to have all economic developers in the region using the same system, so that information can be shared more easily and resources and services can be used more effectively. Shared marketing, professional development and advocacy goals also are part of the liaison's efforts. Bush will travel across the U.P. to accomplish these tasks at all 15 economic development organizations in the region.
