With winter often comes wedding planning, as brides try to get ahead of the game for spring and summer weddings. If you're thinking of a destination wedding, Mackinac Island is getting ready to oblige you. This October, the Mackinac Island Tourism Bureau is hosting a weekend full of wedding-planning events.
The
Destination Dream Wedding Weekend runs Oct 8 and 9, and costs $25 per person, which covers events, food tastings, and island tours during the weekend. Accommodations should be arranged by each party.
Mackinac Island organizers are definitely trying to make it easy on brides to choose the historic island as a wedding destination, as the weekend includes seeing possible ceremony and reception sites, champagne tastings, food samplings, and meetings with Island wedding vendors.
"The wedding specialists on Mackinac Island come with years of experience and insight, so feel free to ask questions," says the tourism bureau. "When used to the fullest extent, they will ensure your wedding on Mackinac Island will be a cinch."
The logistics of planning a wedding on the island, which bans motorized transportation, will also be addressed during the weekend, as bridal parties learn about horse-drawn carriages, and talk to wedding vendors with years of experience on the Island.
Although using horses can be a challenge, the tourism bureau says it also contributes to the enchanting settings the island offers.
"The unique horse drawn environment makes Mackinac Island the perfect setting for a fairy tale wedding," they say.
Registration for the event is on Friday from 5 to 9 p.m. at Historic Mission Church., and online registration is also available at the bureau's
website.
