Deep-fried cheese curds, blooming onions and pickles on a stick are only one savory taste of what's to be had this weekend in Menominee.
The
28th annual Menominee Waterfront Festival takes place from August 7 to 10 at the city's Great Lakes Marina Memorial Park. There's no admission charge, and the festivities include a parade, fireworks, children's and family activities, musical entertainment, and, of course, food vendors.
The event is hosted by the City of Menominee, and by the Marinette/Menominee Area Chamber of Commerce. The festival starts off Thursday with a children's parade at 4 p.m., also when food booths open for the weekend. It's an early day on Friday at 6 a.m. with the YMCA's "Brats for Breakfast" sale, which benefits the Strong Kids Campaign and can be found on the festival grounds till 10 a.m.
Musical groups performing over the weekend include The Cadillacs, Geoff Landon and the Wolfpack, the Flat Broke Blues Band, Haze, Suns of Memphis, Beaker Street, and a drum and bugle corps performance.
The NorthReach Waterfront Run is on Saturday, and includes a 5k run/walk and half-kilometer kids race. Other attractions are helicopter demonstrations, a firefighters contest, a sailboat race, blessing of the watercraft, windsurfing, a charity ride, and a food drive.
