It always means that much more to be recognized for your achievements when the honor comes from those who are the most important: your peers and colleagues.
That's the type of recognition two Marquette doctors received recently. Drs. James Addison and Craig Coccia both were given the Leader Among Peers Award, from the
Marquette General Medical Group.
Addison is an emergency medicine physician at Marquette General Emergency Medicine, while Coccia is a neurosurgeon with the Marquette General Brain and Spine Center.
Dr. Frederick Hoenke, vice president and medical director of physician practices and regional operations for MGMG, announced the awards at a recent annual provider retreat.
"It was a privilege and an honor to present the Leader Among Peers Award to Dr. Addison and Dr. Coccia, who emulate the qualities of leadership every day," says Hoenke.
Those qualities, as listed in the award qualifications, include the consistent demonstration of integrity, dedication, commitment, caring, optimism, steadfastness, adaptability, excellence in patient care, involvement, and a desire to continue life-long learning.
Board-certified in internal medicine, Addison is a Michigan Tech University graduate with a medical degree from Wayne State University in Detroit. His internal medicine residency was at St. Joseph Mercy Hospital in Ann Arbor.
Coccia is board-certified in neurosurgery, and earned both his medical degree and undergraduate degree from the University of Michigan. His residency was done at Henry Ford Hospital in Detroit, followed by a fellowship in spine surgery at Alleghany General Hospital in Pittsburgh.
