MGH's Griffith honored as physician of the year

Accolades and impressive resumes are great things to have as a doctor. But you can be pretty sure of an honest compliment when you're chosen by the nurses you work with as their nomination for physician of the year.

This year at Marquette General Health System, Dr. Brian Griffith has been awarded the Nurses Choice Award as physician of the year. The award recognizes the doctor who best upholds good relationships with hospital staff.

Griffith, a pulmonologist, does this at Marquette General Respiratory Medicine, as well as on the pulmonary and critical care team at MGH. He sees patients with pneumonia, asthma, tuberculosis, emphysema or other conditions involving the chest in daily practice, and works as an intensivist on the critical care side, helping integrate pulmonary care for critically ill patients with a variety of conditions.

According to the nurses Griffith works with, he's doing a good job at it.

"Comments from the nurses' nomination forms consistently mentioned Dr. Griffith's team approach to patient care and his excellent communication skills. He is very deserving of this recognition," says Dagmar Raica, chief nursing officer at MGH.

Griffith is board-certified in internal medicine and pulmonary disease, and received his medical degree from the University of Michigan. He also did internal medicine fellowship and residency at the U-M Medical Center.
