A special event is coming up on Oct. 21 to benefit the
OSF St. Francis Foundation. While benefit dinners are as common throughout the year as ice shacks soon will be on Bay de Noc, this one's a bit different.
The "Heart of Gold" dinner lives up to its name, with seven courses of culinary masterpieces prepared by the U.P.'s best chefs. Members of the Upper Michigan chapter of the American Culinary Federation prepare a menu each year that remains a surprise until the start of the evening, when it's unveiled to guests.
But no matter what is served, it's bound to be a U.P. foodie's dream. Some past examples of courses have been seared halibut, grilled maple leaf duck, or elk-venison pate.
The dinner is a culinary experience unlike any other," says Lanna Scannell, manager of community relations & development at OSF St. Francis. "Chefs present each course and offer information to guests about why and how they made it. Each course also features a wine chosen specifically to complement the course. There are no raffles, auctions or silent auctions. The evening focuses on excellent food, fine wine and great company."
Proceeds from the "Heart of Gold" fundraising dinner go to support new healthcare services and technology.
The dinner is open to the public, and is planned for Thursday, Oct. 21 at the Danforth Place. Call the foundation at 906-786-5707, ext. 5516, for tickets or details.
