There are some fresh faces on the
Sault Convention & Visitors Bureau's board following a decision to include representatives of the community.
The board, which is traditionally comprised of just hotel and motel owners and managers, welcomed last week two new directors for 2011: Dan Dasho and Donald Gerrie, Jr.
Dasho is the general manager of Cloverland Electric Cooperative, headquartered just outside of Sault Ste. Marie, and Gerrie is the area director for USDA Rural Development.
"Our purpose in including community members was to broaden the perspective of the board and bring fresh ideas to the table," says Jim Anderson, CVB board president. "As lodging people, we were focused on that segment of the economy and realized that we may be missing important opportunities."
The change was discussed by the board for more than a year, ultimately resulting in revisions to the organization's bylaws.
Dasho and Gerrie will join five other voting members on the board.
In addition to their regular positions in the community, both men bring additional experiences to the table. Dasho has been involved in economic and tourism issues in Missouri and Wisconsin. Gerrie currently serves as a city commissioner in Sault Ste. Marie.
"Don brings a wealth of knowledge and experience gained on many boards, from his banking career, and from the city commission. Dan brings the perspective of a utility, so he has a great incentive to see us succeed. Both men seemed like a good fit for our organization," Anderson says.
Dasho and Gerrie join Anderson, as well as Carol Eavou, Rob Rodenroth, Tony Wizauer, and Susan Michalski on the CVB Board. Executive Director of the Sault SVB is Linda Hoath.
