Thanks to the advancement of cellular phone technology, businesses that often work remotely with little or no access to a land phone line or high-speed Internet connection no longer have to wait to process credit cards.
PayWare Mobile, a device manufactured by the largest credit card terminal manufacturer in the world,
VeriFone, slips right over the iPhone. This device allows a merchant to turn their iPhone into a credit card processing terminal that can be utilized anywhere there is a cell phone signal in the United States.
"The iPhone app for this product connects to an Internet gateway, which authorizes and captures all of the transaction information, including the customer signature, geographic location and time of the transaction and then emails the customer their transaction receipt," says Seth Stevens, the only dealer of the PayWare Mobile device in the Upper Peninsula.
Stevens notes that the PayWare Mobile encryption sleeve is not for everyone, but should be considered by companies that are always on the move and not near traditional credit card machines. Good examples include taxi and limousine services, trade show vendors and businesses that perform remote services.
The PayWare Mobile device allows mobile merchants to take full advantage of card present processing rates while reducing the risk of customer transaction disputes. Additionally, the PayWare Mobile equipment has a much lower cost than tradition wireless credit card terminals and operates from the existing cell phone account.
More information about the device can be found on the
company website. Those interested in seeing a live demonstration of the device, or are interested in purchasing one, can
email Stevens.
So far, Stevens says just one device has been sold in the Upper Peninsula, and that was in the Marquette area.
"The setup process was fairly simple and the functionality has been great," he says. "As word spreads about this product, I anticipate more to be utilized in the area."
